Let’s be honest: Leakers are backstabbers. Every time I hear about government leakers, I think of the song by the O’Jays “Back Stabbers.”

As I was preparing for today’s broadcast, in my mind’s eye I saw President Trump and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson like they were in Saudi Arabi doing the sword dance. Two overweight older men shifting their weight from side to side, swaying to the beat, pretending they’re dancing. After a few minutes, the initial embarrassment dies down, so they lift their arms as if they are learning to walk for the first time. With their arms out, stabilizing their balance, their torsos begin to move, still swaying to the music; they begin to smile and take a couple of steps. It’s what they do. Imagine they start to awkwardly repeat the words to “Back Stabbers.

Book Review ‘Saint Mazie’ by Jami Attenberg

Granted, Mazie Phillips is not an ordinary saint; she drinks too much, swears, and has numerous careless sexual relations, but her imperfections allow her to set aside judgement and simply help those who need it most. Believe it or not, Mazie Phillips is only a slightly fictionalized character based upon the real-life, Mazie Phillips. In this, why didn’t I think of that novel, Jami Attenberg does a beautiful job of researching and arriving at a conjecture that ultimately translates into a realism that is so believable it seems like she peered into Mazie’s mind so we could enjoy a glimpse.

Tess Monoghan is ritualistic, quirky, and unrefined, not quite as brash as Janet Evonovich’s, Stephanie Plum, but, a strong no fuss female who finds comfort in searching out the negative in everything and everyone. In Tess’s world, all this, combines with her clever, observant qualities, and equals an entertaining character.
