New Adventure: Oliver Doodle and the Thanksgiving Pie Mystery and the Song: Who Took the Pie?

Image
Thanksgiving morning smells like cinnamon, butter, and roasting turkey. Then Phoebe Ann scratches at the door with serious news: the centerpiece pie is gone, the turkey timer is silent, and the backyard squirrels are marching in a suspiciously straight line. Oliver Doodle pushes up his glasses, straps on his backpack, and starts where every good mystery starts. With crumbs. Phoebe Ann, a brindle French bulldog in pearls, is not about to let Thanksgiving be outsmarted. Maple the cat joins from a sunny porch. Benny the squirrel insists he is not part of any pie plot, even with cinnamon on his whiskers. Above them, Grandma Dot’s clever crow, Indigo, calls, “This way!” The trail leads past the fence, through crunching leaves, and to a little woodland table where the missing pie sits in the middle. Oliver does not stomp. He does not shout. He sits down in the leaves and listens. A warm Thanksgiving picture book about clues, crumbs, and making room at the table. For families who want ...

A Cycle of 33 Stories and a Song by Sammy Sutton: Who is Shiloh Malachi?

Image
Before dawn, Shiloh Malachi writes one small word on a blank name tag and walks into the room where someone is still awake. A cycle of 33 stories by Sammy Sutton. Shiloh is the title in Genesis 49:10, “until Shiloh comes,” long read as messianic. Malachi means “my messenger,” and is the last prophetic book before the silence. Before dawn, the name tag is blank on purpose. Shiloh Malachi turns it in his fingers on a bench that does not belong to any one employer. Plastic, clip still good, the kind a night-shift manager hands you from a drawer and never asks for back. He has not written tonight’s word yet. The guitar case sits against his knee like a second person who already knows the hour. He is not waiting for a bus. He writes one small word. JANITOR. GROUNDSKEEPER. SUBSTITUTE. Then he goes inside. That is the whole method of Who is Shiloh Malachi? , a cycle of 33 stories by Sammy Sutton. A nurse fighting a custody hearing after a double shift. A soldier who has not unpacked the duffe...

Who is Shiloh Malachi? Coming Soon!

Image
The name tag is blank on purpose. Before dawn, Shiloh Malachi writes a small word on it—JANITOR, GROUNDSKEEPER, SUBSTITUTE—and walks into the room where someone is still awake. A nurse fighting a custody hearing after a double shift. A soldier who has not unpacked the duffel in eleven months. A teenage hacker about to flood a neighborhood to avenge his sister’s lungs. A widow angry at the grass. A doctor who signed a footnote that became a funeral. He does not preach. He listens. He plays a guitar because it pleases His Father. Then he leaves the next step in the only hands that can take it. It’s a cycle of 33 stories that moves from hospital closet to cemetery oak, from computer lab to loading dock, from a child’s ward to the office of a president who deletes the lullaby. The question in the title is never answered with a vision. It is answered the way the book itself works: one true thing, done without an audience. For judges: this is faith fiction that refuses spectacle. The theolog...
